Enophthalmos

The patient came to us after a traumatic accident in which a golf club was accidentally thrown and struck his face. The impact ruptured his right eye and caused multiple orbital fractures (broken bones around the eye socket). Because of the severity of the injury, the right eye had to be enucleated (surgically removed). This left the orbit with orbital collapse due to fracture and bone removal, resulting in severe enophthalmos (sunken appearance of the eye due to loss of orbital volume). The deformity distorted the natural contour of his face and made it nearly impossible to fit or retain a prosthetic eye.

  • Before Treatment: The orbit showed significant collapse due to fracture and bone removal, creating a hollowed and sunken appearance. The absence of proper support made prosthetic fitting extremely difficult and caused visible facial asymmetry.

  • Course of Treatment: We reconstructed the orbit using hydroxyapatite plates (synthetic bone graft material that mimics natural bone). These were carefully shaped and fixed to rebuild the missing orbital walls, restore normal anatomical volume, and push the orbital region forward to a natural position. This created a stable framework that could support an ocular prosthesis.

  • After Surgery: We reconstructed the orbit using hydroxyapatite plates (synthetic bone graft material that mimics natural bone). These were carefully shaped and fixed to rebuild the missing orbital walls, restore normal anatomical volume, and push the orbital region forward to a natural position. This created a stable framework that could support an ocular prosthesis.

Entropion

The patient came to us with persistent irritation and discomfort caused by entropion (a condition where the eyelid margin turns inward, causing the eyelashes to rub against the eye). This constant friction led to tearing, redness, and a foreign-body sensation, making her daily life uncomfortable.

  • Before Treatment: The inward-turning eyelid caused her lashes to scrape against the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye), leading to pain, irritation, and risk of corneal injury.

  • Course of Treatment: We performed entropion repair surgery, carefully repositioning the eyelid margin to restore its normal outward orientation. The procedure involved tightening and stabilizing the eyelid to prevent future inward rolling.

  • After Surgery: Her eyelid now sits in its correct position, the lashes no longer rub against her eyes, and her symptoms of tearing and irritation have completely resolved. The results were natural and balanced, and she was very pleased with both the comfort and the appearance of her eyes.

Epicanthoplasty & Lower Lid Correction

This young patient came to us suffering from irritation and pain caused by her eyelashes constantly rubbing against her eyes. Loose lashes frequently fell into her eyes, making her uncomfortable and affecting her daily life.

  • Before Treatment: Her epicanthal fold (inner eye fold) and lower eyelid position pushed the lashes inward, causing tearing, redness, and discomfort.

  • Course of Treatment: We performed epicanthoplasty (reshaping the inner corner fold) together with lower lid repair to reposition the lashes away from the eye. As she was a very young child, extra care was taken to ensure she felt safe and comfortable throughout the procedure.

  • After Surgery: Her lashes no longer rubbed against the eye, irritation resolved, and her eye shape appeared more open and natural. She was relieved of pain and delighted with the outcome.

Bulging Eyes (Grave's Disease)

The patient came to us feeling concerned about changes in her facial appearance and the uneven protrusion of her eyes. She wanted to feel more like herself again.

  • Before Treatment: the right eye appeared more open with excess white showing, creating an unbalanced look.

  • Course of Treatment: We performed orbital fat decompression using the Hamura technique, a delicate procedure designed to gently reduce pressure around the eyes and restore their natural position.

  • After Surgery: her eye shape and facial balance improved significantly. The results were natural, and no further treatment was needed because she was delighted with the outcome.
